I took the boys to our annual Hayride at the Day Farms. I remember last year I went and just took Brighton and I was about 8 weeks away from having Landon. I had to carry Brite out in the middle of the field then haul him and both our Pumpkins back to the tractor by myself. I'm sure it was quite a sight. I swore that I wound not go without another adult ever again. Which brings us to this year. Sean had to work, and I had this crazy vision of the three of us hand- in- hand, riding a hay coverd wagon out to the Pumpkin Patch and carefully choosing the perfect Pumpkin. Then my children would sit next to there Pumpkin and pose for a lovely photograph. Then in a few days we would all sit around the kitchen table and carve our pumpkins together. Ahhh...
However, this is what really happened. They open at 4:00, and we arrived at 4:30. There was a line but it didn't look to bad. So we paid the nice Farmer and got it the last of 4 lines. About 10 minuets later the boys are stating to get restless so I told them to sit down in the hay and make a big pile. Some boys in the line next to us joined in. Well, about 30 seconds later they were all throwing hay and screaming at each other.
Next a tractor pulls up, not ours and Brighton tries to get on. I tell him it's no our turn, and we have to wait for the next one. And he starts yelling "ride the Percy(green) tractor MARCIE!" Keep in mind the lines are starting to get crowded so by now 50+ people are watching his happen.
FINALLY, our tractor comes and we are all one board. Well I had forgotten that they have teenage boys with mask's on, jump out of the Corn and scare you. They scared the CRAP out of Landon. So now he is crying into the ear of the nice young man sitting next to me for the remainder of the ride. The poor guy was in Army fatigues and with his three small children and very pregnant wife. It was probably his last weekend with his family before he goes off to defend out country. What a lovely memory he'll have.
Finally we get to choose our pumpkins! Now I decided to let Brighton choose whatever one he wanted and I was not going to sway his decision. Well, if you ever wondered what a $5 pumpkin looks like, here it is:
Yeah Brighton wanted a Percy(green) one, and I'm pretty sure it's rotten. Also it' s hard to see the size in the picture but it is somewhat small. I'm half tempted to drive back over there tonight and switch it for a good one, and just tell him the HaLlOwEeN FaIrY brought him a new one while he was asleep.
Then there was the issue of carrying them back to the tractor while holding Landon. Anyway, I REFUSE to go without Sean next year especially if I am pregnant again by then! I hope not.
I did run into some of our old neighbors from Syracuse that we really liked. It's always fun to see old friends. Here are the rest of the not so lovely pictures from the wonderful outing.

How fun!! Your boys are so cute! Who knew a pumpkin patch could be so adventurous!
I love that pumpkin Bright! Sorry we weren't able to join you, maybe next year!?
I have been wanting to take Burklie, but after your story, I will make sure my mom or husband goes for sure. I can't even imagine with two kids, your brave! Love the green pumpkin!
I think this year we'll get our pumpkins at the grocery store. that way we can throw them in the shopping cart. The pumpkins, not the kids.
You ARE a brave woman! But look how cute your boys are-they even LOOK fall-ish! :)
I too, have visions of family together fun that often end in wailing and anger. The bravest thing to do is take 2 or more kids anywhere with just you. You look like you're having a good time and your pumpkin is definitely unique!
Maybe me and my four kids will acoompany you next year. I don't think you will be so frustrated with someone else to laugh at. I think the boys are adorable!
I love your post about the pumpkin patch outing! You are a trooper to go by yourself! I love the green pumpkin! :)
Marcie-
Thanks so much for your phone calls. I will call you back I promise. It probably won't be until the weekend unless you want to talk at midnight. Anyway, I can't believe how big Brighton is and Landon's pretty cute as well. So fun to catch up. You know you'll go to the pumpkin patch alone again if it comes to that because you're a good mom. I think Brighton's pumpkin is actually pretty cute but cutting it open might get pretty dicey if it really is rotten. Check us out at garyandbethgard.blogspot.com
That is the coolest pumpkin ever! Brighton's got good taste! I think I'd never go anywhere if I had 2 little Cooper's running around. You are awesome!
