You know your to old when.....

I think the above picture is somewhat self explanatory. In his defence it was taken several months ago, but it did give me the push I needed to really go full force with potty training. Yes this is a potty training post, for those who have a weak stomach. I do realize he is 3, but a VERY WISE older sister who had two little boys , about two years apart warned me not to push it until he was ready. Please don't judge me. I once was really good friends with a girl who swore the her little girl was a child genius because she was potty trained at 21 months, which I always found interesting because every time she came to my house she left a giant puddle on my family room floor. He has been going pee on the potty for awhile but he has some interesting habits when it comes to #2. He climbs under a table or crouches down in a corner(sorry for the vivid description.) So about 2 weeks ago I said to myself ..."it is time." He is doing very well, and has stayed dry almost everyday. #2 is still a problem. Now he is holding it in because he does not want to go on the potty. He was on a very rigid schedule before, we started this process, so now I have to put a pull-up on him at his normal #2 time and let him climb under the table. Then when he's done he gets right back in the under ware and stays clean. I realize this is alot of personal information, but mostly I'm hoping someone will read this, and have a suggestion for me. This is what we have resorted to, watchhing a movie on the potty. It did not MOVE him at all, but I do think the picture is funny.

I think obsessing over the potty issue will only give him a complex. Try not to make it a big deal. It's hard to relax when your bottom is little and you're afraid of falling in the water that your mother has been telling you for years is yucky. I think the fact that he is going number one is just great.Focus on the positive. I've had similar experiences with friends children being "potty geniuses." My carpet has permanent stains that tell me otherwise. I think in some instances, the moms are trained to ask their kid every 15 minutes if they need to go. That's okay, but it's not teaching the child to recognize clues that they need to go.

Oh my gosh Marcie I am dying laughing right now. lOVE the cowboy hat w/Brite sitting on the potty watching a movie about the potty. That is CLASSIC. Kamryn has shown NO interest at all. If it makes you feel better both of my nephews who are the same age as Brighton are not potty trained either. I think you feel the same pressure as all the other mile stones that they are "suposed" to do at this age and it gets really annoying hearing about it from the parents that have to rub it in that there child did this and that and makes you feel like something is wrong with your child. (Can you tell I have had some issues in this dept?!) SO...don't worry, he will do it when he is ready and I say that if pull ups work for #2 more power to you. He will get it and he wont go to kindergarton wearing diapers so let's be on the no worries policy :)

If Coops is out of diapers in time to be baptized, that's all right with me. I just took him in for his 3 year old check up and told the Doc he has NO interest at all. The End. Best of luck to ya! Let me know if anything happens!

We are in the same boat :) I posted a little while ago about Parker almost being fully potty trained. Ya he is still going #2 in his pull up :( If I catch him he will go in the potty, but other than that he just goes in his pants?? It is so frustrating!! He never has pee accident NEVER! But he just can't seem to get the #2 thing?? So I am sorry I am not more help?? Just wanted you to know you are not alone!

I spent a lot of time sitting on the bathroom floor reading to Luke while he was sitting on the toilet. I guess he watches his dad a little too much!! We gave him a sticker for his chart every time he went #2. Once he had 5 stickers, his dad would buy him a toy car. It worked for Luke, but I know every kid is different. Good luck!!

I had to leave a comment because I SO SO feel your pain. Hunter was very stubborn when it came to the good old potty training. I feel very strongly that age doesn't mean ANYTHING!! And that goes both ways...just because some kid is potty trained at 18 months or something, doesn't mean they are going to grow up and be a genius. And if it takes a little longer than "normal"--same thing right?? When the kid is ready, that is the right time. If you try to push before they are ready then you will have nothing but a headache on your hands. Ugh!! I hate potty training, and dread the day I have to start all over again with my youngest. So you are not alone in your stress--we mom's all go through the same thing. Good luck with #2--and he does look pretty cute with his cowboy hat.

That is the the cutest picture ever!!!! And my advice is that they will do it when they are ready. Kaiya (my oldest) decided one day when she was 3 years and 3 months old that she was "too old" for diapers and that was that.... My other daughter Kenna decided one month after she turned 3 that she wanted to get potty trained along with our new puppy that we got. It worked, although the pull-ups still come on at night (she turned 4 in November!!) It is always a work in progress. Good luck. You are a wonderful mom!

This made me laugh so hard. I hear boys are hard and seriously no one is judging you. The potty thing doesn't sound fun on either end and I'm impressed with what you've done for what that's worth.
